This is a new area of interest for the Parrish group. The spinal cord is a very difficult structure to image due to its small size, extremely dense nature, and the fact that it is moving within the CSF of the spinal column. We are investigating new acquisition methods to improve resolution and sensitivity for BOLD imaging and Diffusion weighted imaging to gain insight on the dynamics of the spinal cord in pain and sensory processing. We are also investigating how spinal cord function may be altered in chronic pain subjects and if manual therapy may affect how pain processing is transmitted in the cord and in the cortex.
